Following the Grammy-winning Meliora and its companion EP Popestar, Prequelle cemented the Swedish rock outfit as one of the defining acts of their generation. The album draws thematically from the Black Plague, the apocalypse, and the medieval dark ages, filtered through the band's unmistakable theatrical lens.
Formed in Linköping, Sweden in 2006, Ghost built their identity around spectacle: five masked, anonymous "Nameless Ghouls" alongside their iconic frontman Papa Emeritus, a figure dressed as a demonic anti-Pope complete with skull face paint and papal regalia. The visual mythology is inseparable from the music.
