Iowa is Slipknot's second studio album, released August 28, 2001 on Roadrunner Records and produced by Ross Robinson alongside the band. Named for the group's home state, the album channels the raw tension of the period: following the explosive success of their 1999 self-titled debut, internal pressures fractured relationships within the band, and members have since described the Iowa sessions as the darkest stretch of their career. That torment is embedded in every track. It also marks the first full-album appearance of guitarist Jim Root, cementing the lineup that would define the band's classic era.
