Rush 2112 arrives here as a limited heavyweight vinyl pressing remastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios using Direct to Metal Mastering (DMM), an audiophile copper plating process drawn from the original analogue masters. The result is one of the most acclaimed pressings of one of rock's most enduring albums.
Released March 24, 1976 on Mercury Records, 2112 was a turning point for Rush. After the commercial disappointments of Fly by Night and Caress of Steel, the band faced real pressure from their label to play it safe. Instead, they doubled down, anchoring side one entirely with the seven-part, 20-minute title suite written by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, with lyrics by Neil Peart. Set in a dystopian future under the iron rule of the Solar Federation, it became one of progressive rock's defining statements. Side two showcased the band's hard rock roots through a collection of tighter tracks. Critics responded warmly, fans responded even more so, and 2112 went on to sell over 4 million copies in the U.S. alone, becoming the band's second-bestselling album behind Moving Pictures. It ranks second on Rolling Stone's readers' poll of favorite prog rock albums of all time and appears in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
An encapsulated copy of 2112 lets you hold a piece of that history exactly as it left the pressing plant, protected and documented for the long term without ever having to choose between display and preservation.
