One of the most important albums in rock history, Master of Puppets was originally released March 3, 1986 on Elektra Records. Recorded at Sweet Silence Studios with producer Flemming Rasmussen, it was Metallica's third album and the first to be certified Platinum by the RIAA. It has since been certified six-times Platinum in the United States and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. In 2016, it became the first metal album added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, recognized as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Master of Puppets remains the final album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a tour bus accident in Sweden during the album's promotional run.
For collectors, an encapsulated pressing of Master of Puppets means owning a piece of metal history exactly as it left the source: sealed, unhandled, and preserved in the state it was always meant to be kept.
